Five held in murder case

Tiruvarur police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder of J. Navalan, district secretary of All India Agriculture Labourers Association, affiliated to the CPI (M), near Peralam on January 19.

P. Moorthy, Superintendent of Police, told reporters here on Friday that a team led by A.Saravanan, Assistant Superintendent of Police, on Friday arrested Jeeva, Kaleeswaran and G. Prakash at Nedunkulam near Peralam. They also N. Raman and S. Jayakumar at Kollapuram near Peralam.

Mr. Moorthy said that a complaint was made against seven persons by Vasantha, wife of the murdered leader. Weapons used for the murder have been recovered from those arrested. The arrested persons were produced at Nannilam court and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. They are lodged at the Central Prison, Tiruchi. The police are on the hunt for the other two accused.
