Five fishermen from Kilinjalmedu near Karaikal were rescued by the Coast Guard 15 nautical miles off Thopputhurai coast near Kodiyakkarai on Wednesday.
The Commandant of Coast Guard at Karaikal, Udhal Singh, said Coast Guard ship Ameya while on patrol, rescued the fishermen who were stranded in their fibre reinforced plastic after it developed a technical snag.
Mathivanan, Mahesh, Kanthavel, Gugan and Devarajan ventured into the sea on Tuesday from Karaikal and the boat’s engine failed the same day.
The fishermen and the boat were handed over to officials of the Fisheries Department in Karaikal, said Mr.Singh.
