Fishermen stage a sit-in protest at the Government Hospital in Ramanathapuram.

The police on Tuesday resorted to a lathi charge to disperse country boat fishermen, who staged a sit-in protest at the Government Hospital here demanding the arrest of those involved in the death of Sundarrajan, a country boat fisherman of Palanivalasai near Devipattinam.

They alleged that he was murdered by mechanised boat fishermen of Mandapam when he was escorting a mechanised boat, which was among the seven boats captured by country boat fishermen for fishing in their area.

His body was found washed ashore near Sangumal shore on Monday and it was later taken to the Government Hospital here for post mortem.
