Rough sea forced the mechanised boats to halt their operations affecting both fishermen and boat owners here on Wednesday.
C. Parthiban, president, Tuticorin Mechanized Boat Fishermen Labourers Association, said more than 250 mechanised boats remained anchored at Tuticorin fishing harbour.
Fishing may resume either on Thursday of Friday. However, country craft fishermen continued fishing, he said.
Only when the fish catch was sufficient to meet expenditure incurred on diesel, the owners could manage to run this business.
Simultaneously, the fishermen would also be content with sufficient catch worth of Rs.1 lakh and above at one go to get their wages, Mr. Parthiban said.
Such mechanized boats with high powered engines would consume more amount of diesel than usual fishing days since sailors would throttle the diesel engine more in rough sea.
The situation would also cause hardships to drag the netted fishes. However, sources from Fisheries Department said there was no restriction from Meteorological Department since wind velocity was 45 to 55 per nautical mile, which was normal, as per weather report.
