A fisherman, Chittibabu (26) of Sulerikattukuppam near Mamallapuram, sustained serious head injuries on Wednesday after his boat capsized near the seashore.

According to sources, around 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday, the victim was on his way back to the shore. The boat suddenly capsized, and he fell into the sea, hitting his head on granite boulders dumped near the shore in order to check waves near the desalination plant installed by Metrowater on the Sulerikattukuppam shore. Subsequently, he was rushed to a private hospital at Kelambakkam from where he was later shifted to another private hospital at Chennai in the evening for a surgery. Meanwhile, residents lodged a complaint with the Mamallapuram police, sources said.
