The mysterious burning of blank main answer booklets stocked in a school here for forthcoming Plus-Two public examination on Sunday last has shocked officials of Department of School Education.

Even as informal investigation by the police is yet to pinpoint the reason behind the incident, Chief Educational Officer, Tirunelveli, Kasthuribai has been replaced by Swaminathan, Additional Chief Educational Officer, Villupuram, and kept on ‘compulsory wait’ following the incident.

As one of the attendants of the school at Melapalayam, where the 38-page main booklets had been stocked, noticed smoke billowing from the room, he alerted others and the fire was extinguished immediately. However, the mysterious fire had already reduced 825 main booklets into ashes before the fire could be doused. Mr. Swaminathan away in Chennai for a meeting could not be reached for his comments.
