With the filing of nomination papers for the Vandavasi and Tiruchendur assembly constituencies coming to a close on Tuesday, a total of 53 persons submitted the papers.

While 20 persons filed the nomination papers for Vandavasi, 33 persons submitted the papers for Tiruchendur. Nominees of the Dravida Munentra Kazhagam, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam filed the papers, according to a press release issued by Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta.

In another release, Mr. Gupta stated that the Election Commission clarified that its instructions did not prohibit those already issued with the cards under the Chief Minister Kalaignar’s Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatments from availing of the benefit of medical treatment. In the case of those who had not got the cards, there would be no objection if they availed themselves of the benefits of the scheme by production of certificate of income from the competent authority.
