A new born baby girl was abandoned by her parents within a few hours of her delivery at the Government Hospital here, on Friday.

The baby girl weighing 2.78 kg was delivered by her 23-year-old mother in the small hours of Friday. Speaking to The Hindu , a hospital source said the baby was handed over to her grandmother Gokila, and was also fed by her mother.

Early morning, the baby was taken by the hospital staff for vaccination and was kept under observation.

Later, when the staff had taken the baby to be handed over to her mother, nobody was around.

According to the hospital official, the couple Vinod and his wife Anuja had given their address as Avadhanapatty Agraharam at the time of Anuja’s admission for the delivery of their first baby.

The baby girl was delivered healthy at about 1.57 a.m. and was under the care of her mother.

The hospital authorities had alerted the police and the social welfare department to verify if the address was genuine.

The baby is said to be healthy and is being kept under the hospital’s care.
