The Madras High Court on Monday reserved orders on appeals challenging a single Judge's order staying the operation of the fee structure for private unaided schools fixed by the Justice Govindarajan Committee.

The First Bench consisting of Chief Justice M.Y.Eqbal and Justice T.S.Sivagnanam reserved orders after hearing the parties, which included the State Platform for Common School System and the State Government, which was represented by the Additional Advocate-General (AAG), P.Wilson.

Earlier, in an order on petitions filed by private unaided schools and associations, a single Judge had stayed the operation of the fee structure fixed by the panel.

In its appeal, the State government said the purpose of the Tamil Nadu Schools (Regulation and Collection of Fee) Act 2009 had been nullified by the single Judge's interim order.

The AAG submitted that taking advantage of the order, private schools were collecting exorbitant fees.
