AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said that the fear of defeat had gripped the DMK and its president M. Karunanidhi.

Addressing an election meeting here, she said that people's support to the AIADMK-led alliance was growing day-by-day and this was evident from the crowd she drew at her election meetings.

She appealed to the partymen to work hard and ensure the victory of AIADMK alliance candidates.

Referring to Mr. Karunanidhi's decision to contest from Tiruvarur constituency this time, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that though he belonged to Tiruvarur and was Chief Minister of the State for five terms, he had not done anything to improve the economy of Tiruvarur people. “He amassed wealth and has become one of the richest persons in the whole of Asia. But you (people of Tiruvarur) remained poor and the district remained backward.”
