FCRI students take out voter awareness rally

As part of government initiatives to achieve cent per cent polling in the May 16 election, about 100 students of Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI) took out an awareness rally on Wednesday.

Thoothukudi Sub-Collector and Returning Officer S. Gopala Sundar Raj and FCRI Dean G. Sugumar flagged off the rally which started near FCRI staff quarters and went through Teacher’s Colony, Postal and Telegraph Colony and Third Mile. The participants carried banners and distributed pamphlets with messages on importance of voting to every house. S. Chandran, Tahsildar, Thoothukudi, took part in the rally which was coordinated by M. Muruganantham, NSS Programme Officer of FCRI.

By the police

On Tuesday evening, the Department of Police organised an awareness camp at Manakarai village in Srivaikuntam taluk.

Superintendent of Police Ashwin M. Kotnis, who presided over the camp, appealed to the voters to vote without any fear or favour. Manakarai village comes under under Ottapidaram Assembly Constituency which has 11 vulnerable polling booths, including two at Manakarai.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Thoothukudi Rural) S. Deepa Ganiger, Returning Officer of Ottapidaram Constituency A. Sivagami, Srivaikuntam Tahsildar S.S. Selva Prasath and local body representatives were present.
