March 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Demanding release of water to save the standing paddy crop in the tail-end regions of Kannadian Channel irrigation system, a group of farmers from Cheranmahadevi area submitted a petition in the office of the Collector on Friday.

The farmers said the water released in Kannadian Channel nourished the paddy cultivated in Cheranmahadevi, Pattamadai and Melaseval, but was yet to reach Gopalasamudram area.

Paddy crop to wilt

Paddy crop cultivated on over 250 acres was about to wilt. To save this crop, the Collector should order release of water in the tail-end of Kannadian Channel for 15 more days, they added.
