Farmers get smart cards at Uzhavar Santhai in Palani

November 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - PALANI:

With a view to making allocation of stalls for farmers at the Uzhavar Santhai here hassle-free, smart cards were distributed to 610 of them at a function held on Tuesday.

Palani has one of the vibrant farmers’ markets in the State and it sells an average of 16 tonnes of vegetables a day.

Less time

Giving away the smart cards, K. Ilango, Joint Director of Agriculture (Marketing), said that the new facility would minimise the time taken to allot stalls for farmers. Under the earlier arrangement, farmers had to wait for about two hours to get registered for the day before allotment of stalls.

Now registration and allotment could be done in a few minutes with the smart cards.

Those who were present on the occasion included Kalimuthu, Administrative Officer; Suruliappan, Extension Officer, and Sundararaj and Muralidharan, Agriculture Officers.
