Unidentified persons entered the house of a farmer in Tiruchengode on Sunday night and decamped with 48 sovereign gold jewellery and Rs. 68,000 in cash here.

Ramasamy of Nainampalayam is living with his wife Lakshmi in the house along with his mother Perumayee. His daughter Prema, who is pregnant, is also in the house.

On Sunday, at 9 p.m. when Ramasamy went out, a six-member gang with their face masked entered the house and threatened the three women at knife point to give the jewellery.

When Perumayee refused, one of the robbers inflicted injuries in her hand and also threatened to kill Prema’s son. They also gagged the three women and locked them in a room.

Lakshmi told them where the jewellery was and the gang took away the jewellery and cash and fled on a motorcycle in the house. The family informed the Molasi police.

Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.

Superintendent of Police S. Maheswaran visited the spot and held inquiries. A case was registered. Further investigations are on.
