Fake TTE arrested by Jolarpet railway police

A person, who claimed to be a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) of the railways and collected money from passengers in a running train, was arrested by the Jolarpet railway police in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the Jolarpet railway police sources, S. Sivakumar (45) of Jolarpet, who was travelling in train no. 22652 Palani-Chennai Express lodged a complaint with the railway police that a person, pretending to be a TTE, was checking the tickets of the passengers. He was collecting money on grounds of alleged non-possession of identity proof when the train was running between Salem and Jolarpet at about one a.m..

Sivakumar, Special Sub-Inspector of the Jolarpet Railway Police Station questioned the impostor, who was identified as S. Kumar alias Babu alias Babu Kumar (22) of Tharamangalam Main Road in Pappampatti in Omalur taluk.

He was found in possession of a bogus TTE identity card. He had fraudulently collected Rs.550 from five passengers. He was arrested under Section 170 (personating a public servant) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
