Fake note racket busted

Tirunelveli City Crime Branch police busted a fake currency racket and seized counterfeit currency notes to the tune of Rs.1,73,500 from a house at Fathima Nagar in Melapalayam here on Monday.

Two persons were arrested in this connection and machines used for printing the fake currency, printer, photocopier, cutting machine and raw materials were seized from the house. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Marimuthu carried out the operation.

As many as 297 counterfeit notes of Rs.500 and 250 notes of Rs.100 denomination were seized. The two arrested persons, Tamim Ansari (34) of Melapalayam and A. Rahmathulla (31) of Pettai, were engaged in this racket for the past one month, the police said.
