The accounts of fair price shops should be subjected to social audit during the Grama Sabhas to be held in the village panchayats on August 15, according to a release from R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore.

He said that this was being done for the first time in the rural areas.

The `A’ registers, supply registers, `chitta’ registers, stock registers, inspection registers and bill books pertaining to the last six months would be kept in the Grama Sabha meetings. The Collector has appealed to the public to participate and get their doubts about the PDS clarified.
