Improvement works have been taken up at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh at Saraswathi Mahal Library, one of the biggest manuscripts library in Asia, in Thanjavur, said M.S.Shanmugham, Collector, here on Sunday. Speaking at the 233rd birthday celebrations of Rajah Serfoji, architect of the library, the Collector said the works included air-conditioning of auditorium, renovation of museum and improvements in the library building.

Mr. Shanmugham said the library is a treasure trove and people should utilise it. It has reprinted seven books this year and published four new books. He released the books ‘Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam part-II', ‘Manaiyadi sastram' and ‘Cauvery sthuthi'.
