Extend welfare aid to persons with 40 per cent disability: TARATDAC

The Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) sought the implementation of a GO issued during February to extend welfare assistance to persons with 40 per cent disability.

As part of a State-wide agitation, members of the association staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate on Friday. G. Subramaniam, district president presided and State secretary of the association Wilson inaugurated the demonstration and said that the government should extend monthly assistance to those with even 40 per cent disability, Rs. 5000 per month for those affected badly and for others a monthly assistance of Rs. 3000.

Reservation sought

The association also demanded 3 per cent reservation for differently-abled in government employment etc.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had announced on the floor of the Assembly that under Rule 110 the differently-abled with 40 per cent disability would be given all the welfare assistance without any precondition.

Even after six months of the announcement made by the Chief Minister, the GO has not been implemented, the association said.

District secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Regis spoke at the demonstration.
