As part of the World Bank-funded Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP), an official from the Central Water Commission and a consultant inspected the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur here on Friday.

Accompanied by dam engineers, the members inspected 16-vent surplus sluices, Ellis Saddle Bridge, weather station, gallery, seepage points, storage points and assessed the security measures in place.

Officials said the main purpose of the visit was to ascertain the stability of the dam and suggest improvement measures.

The members would submit a report, based on which engineers would submit a proposal to the Centre and seek funds for improvements. Officials said that 66 Water Resources Department dams and 38 Tamil Nadu Electricity Board dams were selected for the project in the State. The members have already visited Anaimadavu in Vazhapadi and Kariakoil in Attur that comes under the Tiruchi Region of the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department.

Sources said that the expert team wanted a protection wall to be constructed near the surplus bridge.
