The disciplinary action taken against a group of members from the State unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has triggered complaints from members concerned against the State leadership.
According to co-convener of the State unit M. Lenin, six persons have been ‘expelled’ from the party for ‘indiscipline and not adhering to the party’s principles and policies’.
It was the national leadership which took the decision that came into retrospective effect from September 1, 2013. Asked the rationale behind giving retrospective effect to the decision, he replied that the activities of indiscipline had begun in August-September.
However, Ku. Balakrishnan, who called himself State secretary and one of the members concerned, said he received an e-mail from Christina Samy, State convener, during the early hours of Tuesday informing he had been suspended. He and some others had been raising the issue of lack of transparency in the affairs of the party, Mr. Balakrishnan claimed.
Mr. Lenin denied the charge and said there had been complete transparency and added that the State unit was being run in compliance with the national leadership’s directions and advice.
On Wednesday evening in Saidapet, Mr. Balakrishnan and his group which included K.P. Narayanan, coordinator of the Chennai unit of the AAP, held a public meeting to propagate the party’s position on a variety of public issues.
