‘Expedite work on underpass’

April 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - SALEM:

The Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam has urged the railways to expedite the work of constructing an underpass near Salem Railway Junction without any delay.

The work was undertaken by the Rail Construction Organisation in February 2013 to replace the manned level crossing on the junction main road at Suramangalam. The work is progressing at a snail’s pace at present, said A. Annadurai, district president of the Iyakkam in a letter to the General Manager, Southern Railway.

The inordinate delay in the execution of the project is affecting the sick, senior citizens, and students. He said that all encroachments in the area should be removed to speed up the work.
