A total of 3,460 ballot units and 3,453 control units, which will be used in electronic voting machines for the upcoming assembly polls, reached Tirunelveli on Saturday, District Revenue Officer, M.G. Kulandaivelu said.

These units arrived from seven districts of Gujarat. Amidst tight security, these units had been kept in a warehouse godown at Sripuram here, the DRO said.

The next batch of EVMs was expected to arrive from Maharashtra in two or three days. In Thoothukudi, a total of 2,300 electronic voting machines, had already arrived last week from Gujarat.

The EVMs comprised 2,300 ballot units and 2,030 control units, which arrived from five districts in Gujarat and one district in Maharashtra, said Collector M. Ravikumar.

Besides, a batch of 1,500 ballot units and 750 control units was expected to arrive here soon. Of the EVMs, 10 per cent would be kept as reserved, he said.
