Erode Deputy Mayor among 22 councillors retains candidacy, Mayor’s name missing

Deputy Mayor K.C. Palanichamy and four Zonal Chairpersons have been nominated for contesting in the next elections to City Corporation. Mayor Malliga Paramasivam’s name was not in the list.

According to the list of candidates released by AIADMK, 22 councillors in the 60-member house have been given tickets to contest again.

The Deputy Mayor will be contesting from the third ward. Likewise, the sitting zonal chairpersons: R. Munippan, P. Kesavamoorthy, R. Manoharan and P.Kanchana will be contesting in fifth, 20th, 32nd and 51st ward respectively.

Independent member

The 22 sitting councillors to contest again include hitherto Independent member Radhamani Bharathi who joined AIADMK recently. She has been given ticket to contest in the 27th ward. Erode East MLA Thennarasu’s son Kalaiarasu has been named the candidate for 15th ward.

Since 50 percent reservation is followed, sitting Councillors V. Manickavasagan of second ward, S. Selvam of seventh ward, who, too, won as an Independent and joined AIADMK recently, and 11th ward Councillor P. Munusamy managed to secure seats for their spouses: Malarvizhi, Pushpa and Thilagavathy respectively.
