Ensure fair price, supply of sand: Vasan

January 08, 2018 12:55 am | Updated 12:55 am IST - CHENNAI

Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan on Sunday said the steps taken by the State government to control sand prices and address shortage had not yielded the desired results. Mr. Vasan said steps like taking over of sand quarries and regulation of M-sand sales had not brought down the prices.

The sand imported from Malaysia through Tuticorin port also faced hurdles.

Mr. Vasan urged the government to ensure that the restrictions imposed by the recent government order on import of M-sand do not result in further shortage and rise in prices. The government has said that the Public Works Department alone can deal with imported sand. The TMC leader said that in case of imported sand, the prices should be fixed based on quality and the government should sell it in a transparent manner.
