Encroachments removed in Salem

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - SALEM:

Corporation officials removed 13 shops that were functioning in the New Bus Stand premises here on Friday.

These shops obtained permission for running Aavin booths to sell its products. However, they were found selling other items.

Though the Aavin management and the Corporation issued notices to these shopkeepers many times, the traders refused to vacate the shops. When the corporation carried out eviction drive earlier, the shopkeepers obtained a stay order from the Madras High Court. However, the recent court order came in favour of the Corporation and hence the shops were removed in the presence of police personnel. Shopkeepers staged a protest.
