Encroachment removed from temple land

March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Backed by the police, officials from Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment removed permanent and temporary encroachments made on 25 cents of its land at Karuppanthurai here on Tuesday.

As a few individuals had encroached upon 25 cents of land at Karuppanthurai, belonging to Swami Nellaiyappar Temple, notices were issued to them in 2008 to leave the land. When they refused, the Department of HR and CE filed a case against the encroachers.

As they were still adamant even after the court delivered its verdict in favour of the Department of HR and CE, eviction notices were issued recently and the encroachments were removed on Tuesday with police protection. Barbed wire fence was erected around this property immediately.
