President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday called upon education institutions to encourage and generate innovation so that they could find a place among the top-ranked world class institutions.

Inaugurating the Loyola College School of Commerce and Economics, he said that not even a single Indian university figured among the top 100 global universities. “We have within us the ability to revive our leadership position in higher education. We have the best of students and teachers. All that is needed is coordination and focused efforts. We must develop our colleges and universities into world-class academic institutions,” he said.

Governor K. Rosaiah said India had to go a long way in gross students’ enrolment in higher education from the present 18 per cent to 30 per cent.
