Employee duped of jewels

An employee of a jewel shop of Sirkali who came to hand over gold jewels to the shop’s branch at Mayiladuthurai was duped of jewels worth Rs.18 lakh on Wednesday. V. Radhakrishnan (66), who reached Mayiladuthirai bus stand, was walking towards the shop with 74 sovereigns of new and old jewels. A group of four persons, posing themselves as policemen, got his baggage on the pretext of checking it for ganja, police said.

Mr. Radhakrishnan was shell-shocked to find the baggage without jewels and lodged a complaint with the police.

The Mayiladuthurai police have registered a case.
