Elephant herds that destroyed sugarcane and banana crops in Bhavani Sagar area were chased into Vilamundi Reserve Forest by a Forest Department team during the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday.

All through the night hours, the Forest team chased a herd of three adult elephants and two calves from a banana field in Karithoddampalayam, two elephants from a sugarcane field in Anna Nagar, and two more elephants from another field in the same area.

The elephant herds were chased into the forest safely through bursting of crackers, a Forest Department communication said.
