A female elephant calf, estimated to be three-and-a-half-years old, was found dead by locals at Thaneerpallam near Kodagai village. Local people who noticed the dead animal, informed the authorities. There were no injuries on the body, but worms were found in its stomach. District Forest Officer Rajendran said the autopsy revealed that death had been due to natural causes. The calf was found to have had trouble in its valves, and that is believed to have been the cause of death, Mr.Rajendran said.
