The Election Commission of India has announced a special summary revision of electoral rolls of Assembly constituencies with January 1, 2014 as the qualifying date.
An official release said the Commission also announced a schedule in this regard. On October 1 this year draft roll would be published. From October 1 to October 31 claims, objections (inclusion, deletion, correction and change in address) would be held.
Reading of relevant part/section of photo electoral rolls in Grama Sabha/Local Bodies and RWA meeting and verification of names would be taken up between October 2 and October 5 this year. Special campaign with booth level agents political parties for receiving claims and objections would be taken up on October 6, 20 and 27.
The final publication of rolls would be done on January 6 next year.
All those who are 18 years on January 1 next year are eligible to submit applications for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll. Applications could also be filled for deletion, correction, and change in the address within a constituency.
The electoral photo identity cards for those whose name are included would be given at a function to be held on the occasion of National Voters Day on January 25 next year at polling station locations.
As a run up to the special summary revision, 2014 the rationalisation of polling stations was carried out and completed. As a result of rationalisation, the number of polling stations in the State had risen to 60,418 from 58,761.
Training was imparted to all the booth level officers during the second fortnight of July this year, sensitising them on the important issues relating to roll revision, the release added.
