Elderly woman murdered, valuables stolen

Seventy-eight-year-old Gomathiammal, widow of Parameswaran, a retired loco pilot, who was staying alone in Palanipet in Arakkonam was found murdered in her house on Thursday morning.

According to the police, a neighbour called up Gomathiammal’s son Nandakumar in Chennai that articles were strewn all over in the house. When he cross-checked with another neighbour, he was told that Gomathiammal was found murdered.

The neighbour also told him that a bureau in his house had been forced open and articles from it were strewn all around.

Nandakumar rushed to Arakkonam and lodged a complaint with the Arakkonam town police.

An ear-stud worn by Gomathiammal and her cell phone were missing.

The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) and section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code.
