Eight students who had been on fast since Saturday on Sri Lanka Tamils issue at Mullivaikkal Mutram here ended their fast on Tuesday, responding to appeals by leaders of various political parties and Tamil outfits.
They went on fast, urging the Centre to honour the resolution adopted in the State Assembly and press the United Nations to bring a resolution for conducting a referendum on Eelam among Tamils across the world.
P. Nedumaran, president, Ulaga Thamizhar Peramaippu, and other leaders offered fruit juice to students marking the end of the fast. S. Jayaprakash, one of the students, told reporters that college students would observe a day's token fast on April 22 in front of their colleges.
