Collector R. Nanthagopal inaugurated a government e-service centre at the Collectorate here on Wednesday. The centre has been started under the national and State e-governance programme.
K. Balaraman, District Revenue Officer, K. Madhivanan, Personal Assistant (General) to the Collector, Ravishankarnath, P.A. (Development), C. Balaganesan, National Informatics Officer, V.S. Arun, General Manager, Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) and D. Thirumal, District Coordinator of the e-governance programme, participated in the function.
Mr. Thirumal told The Hindu that though the e-service centre at the Collectorate is a district centre, in the first phase, it would help the residents of Tirupattur taluk to obtain community, income, residence and first-generation graduate certificates, besides certificates for women deserted by their husbands. Tirupattur taluk was the first taluk in Vellore district where e-governance programme was implemented, with the inauguration of 35 e-service centres in the taluk in September last year.
The objective of the e-governance plan is to computerise all government departments and help the public to obtain necessary certificates through the nearest e-service centres. Employees of the Vaniyambadi and Ambur taluk offices have been given training in e-governance, and e-service centres would be introduced in these taluks in the next phase. The commencement of e-service centres in these taluks has been kept in abeyance pending the completion of the process of reorganisation of taluks in the wake of the formation of the Natrampalli taluk with village panchayats from Vaniyambadi and Ambur taluks being annexed to it. The e-governance programme would be extended to all taluks in the district in a phased manner, he said.
