Education loan melas to be held on September 3

Farmers can also get assistance under Uzhavar Paadhukappu Thittam

The district administration would conduct education loan melas in eight taluks on September 3, Collector M. Ravikumar said here on Monday.

Talking to media persons, he said farmers could also get assistance under Uzhavar Paadhukappu Thittam to meet the educational expenses of their wards. Borrowers could avail loans in the range of Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh at the mela, he said.

Special camps would be conducted for differently abled people in all taluks on August 27. Jobless people could derive benefits from these camps. Camps would also be conducted at 10 places in 12 blocks to identify disability in children aged up to five years.

Last year, 13 surgeries were performed on children with various deformities and this year 19 differently abled children had been identified for surgery. The government provided special assistance of Rs.8.5 lakh for performing surgery on differently abled children.

A speech therapy facility was being established in Thoothukudi, the Collector said.

At the special camps conducted for making corrections in family cards in all taluks on August 18, of the 1,661 petitions received, 1,654 were solved — 551 had applied for inclusion of names; 550 for deletion of names; 198 for change of residential address; and 42 for corrections in address.

Later, an assistance of Rs.3 lakh each was given through Chief Minister’s General Relief Fund to family members of S. Anand (19) of PSP Nagar, Korampallam, and S. Muthukumar (25) of Ambedkar Nagar, Sundaravelpuram. Both of them died accidentally on the premises of Tuticorin Thermal Power Station on August 25, 2015.

Besides, Rs.50,000 was given to a relative of M. Selvakumar (9) who drowned in a pond on March 4, 2015.
