EC’s communication valid, proper: DMK

March 21, 2014 02:52 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 10:24 am IST - CHENNAI:

The DMK has said that an Election Commission (EC) communication that the painting of leaves resembling the AIADMK symbol on small buses may be suitably covered is valid and proper.

The party treasurer, M.K. Stalin, made the submission in his counter to a petition by the AIADMK, represented by its general secretary Jayalalithaa, challenging a portion of the EC’s letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, of March 10, regarding the painting of the leaves on the buses.

The EC had said, “The painting of leaves resembling AIADMK symbol appearing on small buses plying in Chennai may be suitably covered so that it does not become mobile advertisements for that party.”

In the counter, filed through counsel I. Paranthaman, Mr. Stalin submitted that as far as the painting on the buses was concerned, the EC had rightly discharged its duties.
