Traders affiliated to the Federation of Tamil Nadu Traders Associations will observe a ‘black day’ in Tiruchi on April 12 to protest against the seizure of money carried for business transactions.
A.M. Vikirama Raja, president of the Federation, told presspersons here on Friday that after the model code of conduct came into force, poll officials were repeatedly harassing innocent traders and farmers in the guise of surprise inspection to check transportation of money.
The Federation has already demanded that the traders be allowed to carry up to Rs. 3 lakh without any documents. Mr. Vikirama Raja said the TIN, PAN card, municipal permit and the identity card provided by the traders association should be considered as approved documents for the purpose of substantiating claim for the money being carried, he said.
Representatives from the Federation, who will be participating in the all-India traders’ conference in New Delhi from April 4-6, will call on the Chief Election Commissioner
Mr. Vikirama Raja said that the DMK and the PMK have received the demands of the traders with an assurance that they will be incorporated in their poll manifesto.
The Federation will announce its support to one of these two parties which come forward to incorporate these demands in their election manifesto.
