EC announces schedule for Rajya Sabha election

The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the election of candidates from Tamil Nadu for six vacancies in the Rajya Sabha arising on April 2.

A release from Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar stated on Monday that the notification would be issued on Tuesday (January 21).

The last date for filing of nominations would be January 28 and the scrutiny of nominations would be taken up on January 29. The last date for withdrawal of candidature was January 31.

If required, the poll would be held on February 7 between 9am and 4pm. Counting would be taken up on the same day at 5pm.

The Secretary of the State Legislative Assembly Secretariat, A.M.P. Jamaludeen, had been appointed the returning officer.

Nomination papers along with other documents could be filed between 11 am. and 3 pm from January 21 (Tuesday) to January 28 except on Sunday (January 26).
