The Election Commission of India, which acted impartially in Uttar Pradesh, has been acting in a partial manner in Tamil Nadu by denying genuine rights to AIADMK (Amma) faction, said Minister for Forests C. Srinivasan.
Inaugurating a modern Aavin parlour here on Sunday, he said the EC had acted fairly and impartially when both Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav were claiming party symbol. It meticulously scrutinised the documents and assessed the support of MLAs enjoyed by both the factions, and finally allotted the symbol to Akhilesh Yadav, who had a majority of supporters and MLAs.
But the commission handled the symbol issue between the two AIADMK factions in a different manner. “Why did it fail to consider the issue based on merit? Our faction has been enjoying the support of 122 MLAs. We had submitted all necessary documents. But the EC has been acting in a partial manner,” he said.
“The split in the AIADMK is an illusion. The party is intact. Several MLAs in the rival camp are ready to come to the parent fold. No one can a pull out a single MLA from it. It also enjoys the support of 48 district secretaries,” he added.
In his special address, Minister for Dairy K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji said the AIADMK was a very humble party, but “if anyone used their power to suppress us, we will not allow it”.
“Many MLAs in the rival camp are prepared to come to our fold. But we will not pull them and wait for an amicable merger. We do not force anyone,” he added.
