Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption conducted searches at the house of former Tourism and Registration Department Minister N. Suresh Rajan on Saturday.

Split in to seven teams, they carried out the searches simultaneously at the residence of former Minister N.Suresh Rajan situated at Vellalar colony at Nagercoil, the steel company owned by his wife, T.S. Bharathi, at Pazavoor in Tirunelveli district, N.S.R. Steel company at Vellalar colony at Ramavarmapuram East in Nagercoil owned by his wife, the house of his father-in-law, D. Duraiswamy, at Ramavarmapuram west, the fishnet company owned by his wife at Asaripallam town panchayat, the residence of his sister Uma at Ramavarmapuram Vellalar colony (east) and the house of the sister of his wife, Priya, husband of Pukazenthi at Parvathavarthini street in Nagercoil.

Around 100 DVAC personnel from Dindugal, Virudunagar, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil conducted searches in seven places and they reportedly seized documents during the searches. The DVAC sleuths started the searches from 6 a.m..

In the meantime, after hearing about the searches, a large number of DMK cadres thronged in front of his house and shouted slogans against the AIADMK government terming the act as the ‘political vendatta'.

Mr. Rajan was the tourism minister from 1996-2001 during the then DMK regime. After the next regime came to power, a case was registered against him for amassing wealth against his known proportionate income.

In the meantime, the police had registered a case against him when he used unparliamentary words against the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, at a public meeting held at Kaliyakkavilai and also a land grabbing case recently.

He got advance bail at the High Court bench in Madurai.

Speaking to reporters, the Mr. Rajan said that the DMK has fielded chairman posts for four municipalities, president posts for 55 town panchayats and other posts in the ensuing local body elections.

The DMK would win all the posts including the chairman of Nagercoil, Padmanabhapuram, Colachel and Kuzuthurai municipalities. With an intention to thwart the poll prospects of DMK, the AIADMK was foisting cases against him.

He started the fish net company during 2003 and the Income Tax was paid as per the rules and regulations till on date without any fault.

The false cases foisted on him would be legally faced by him and finally the truth would be known to the public, said Mr. Rajan.
