DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Friday threatened to launch an agitation against the State government’s decision to appoint director, doctors and registrars for a multi super-specialty hospital without following reservation.
They said that the government, by its decision, has sought to bury social justice in Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Karunanidhi said the order appointing a director and others to the hospital functioning at Omandurar Estate was issued on December 27.
Citing a portion of the order which made it clear that “there is no reservation for these posts,” Mr. Karunanidhi said paragraph seven stated that “rule of reservation is not applicable for posts of senior consultants, associate consultants, junior consultants, registrar and residents.”
The order, however, said that persons belonging to OBC/BC/MBC/ST/ST and women candidates were encouraged to apply.
Mr. Karunanidhi alleged that the government had also agreed to pay unprecedented salary to the director and others. “The monthly salary of the director has been fixed at Rs. 2.5 lakh. I do not know whether the Chief Secretary of the State is getting this much salary. Even the Chief Minister and other Ministers may not draw such a huge amount,” Mr. Karunanidhi said. According to the DMK chief, the government had decided to appoint 14 senior consultants and each person would get Rs. 1.5 lakh a month. In the case of associate consultants, monthly salary would be Rs. 1.25 lakh.
All 23 junior consultants to be appointed would get Rs. 1 lakh each per month. There would be 14 registrars and each one would get Rs. 70,000. All 19 residents would get Rs. 50,000 each per month.
Dr. Ramadoss said that while it was mandatory to follow reservation and roster system even in selecting a single person for a government job, it was shocking that the government had chosen to forego the procedure for appointing 84 persons.
The appointment of a director and doctors with a huge salary might de-motivate other doctors in government service. “There is no need to fill vacancies in a hurried manner. The government should immediately give up its plan and follow the normal procedure for appointments,” he said.
