Drive against shrill horns

April 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Bengaluru:

More than 100 vehicles were found to have air horns, during an inspection by Transport Department officials on Friday, following the High Court ruling on Thursday on the need to reduce noise pollution.

Penalised

The air horns were confiscated and vehicle owners penalised.

The fine begins at Rs 700 depending on the type of vehicle, Joint Commissioner for Transport Narendra Holkar, who heads the enforcement team, said.

He has advised all motorists to remove air horns, shrill horns and multi-toned horns.

Buses and maxicabs plying on Mysuru Road, Kanakapura Road, Bannerghatta Road and Bengaluru city were checked for illegal operation, violation of permit conditions and running services parallel to city and inter-city buses.

It was found that one van carrying cash to ATMs had not paid road tax amounting to Rs 60,000 since 2011.

Also, 100 overloaded goods vehicles violating various permits were seized and sent to depots in Jayanagar, Banashankari, Deepanjalinagar and Kengeri.
