Drinking water crisis discussed at council meet

Drinking water crisis and the means to tackle it during summer were discussed in the Polur Panchayat Union council meeting held at Polur on Wednesday.

The Chairman A. Rajan. Vice Chairman Ragu, commissioners Sridhar and Babu apart from councillors were among those present in the meeting.

Mr.Rajan told the council that drinking water works were pending completion in 67 places in the block. He asked the councillors to exert pressure on contractors to expedite the works.

He informed the council that open wells were dug in Mambattu, Tindivanam, Ananthapuram and Kuruvimalai villages at a cost of Rs.25.5 lakh.

A resolution was passed to spend Rs.16 lakh towards laying pipelines and building pump rooms in these villages. That apart, resolutions were passed to take up drinking water works worth Rs.67 lakh in 26 villages including Kelur, Kalasamuthiram, Kuppam and Kalpattu.
