State topper S. Nithyasri aspires to become a software engineer while other SSLC State rank holders prefer civil service next to medicine and engineering as they gear up for two more years of hard work before joining the professional courses.
For Nithyasri, who has scored 499 out of 500 in the SSLC examinations, results of which were declared on Thursday, becoming a software engineer was a childhood dream. Daughter of Sundaresan, a priest performing rituals in Rameswaram, she was confident of getting above 490 and pleasantly surprised to emerge as one of the State toppers.
A student of Vivekananda Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Rameswaram, she has scored the high marks thanks to the school conducting special coaching during holidays and series of unit and cycle tests.
G. Ajay, a student of MG Public MHSS at Peravoor, one of the four State second rank holders in the district, aspires to become an IAS officer. He studied with ease, even while listening to music. “There was no pressure and I enjoyed the studies,” he told The Hindu .
S. Sahana of AV HSS, the other State second rank holder, is also an IAS aspirant. She developed a liking for civil service when her mother, an Assistant Educational Officer, used to brief her about review meetings conducted by the Collector.
P. Riya Vaz of St. Anne’s MHSS, Akkalmadam in Rameswaram, is another State second rank holder with 498 marks. Hailing from a fishing family, he aspires to join one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
M. Vishnavi of Syed Ammal HSS, who scored 497 to secure State third rank, also wants to become an IAS officer.
K. Gokula Nanthini of National Academy Montessory MHSS, the other State third rank holder says she wants to become an English lecturer. S. Naveen of Creative Matriculation School, Puliyur. was the other second State rank holder in the district.
