A month after publishing the draft guideline values for properties across Tamil Nadu, the Registration Department has now revised them. While most of the proposed values remain unchanged, for a few places it has been modified. Suggestions and objections will be received till the end of November. After reviewing the suggestions received, the final guideline values will be published. The entire process will be wrapped up by December 15.
On October 14, the existing guideline values were steeply raised, and the revised values were put up for public comments. Within Chennai city, guideline values were increased two to four fold and about five to six fold in the suburbs.
Following this, in Chennai alone, about 73 objections were filed by property owners from places such as Anna Nagar, Pallavaram and Kodambakkam. Objections from the other parts of the State covering 32 revenue districts were also received. Kovilpatti with more than 100 objections is among the places that has filed the maximum number of complaints.
Most of the objections pertain either to the increased value or to the reclassification of properties from agricultural to residential or other categories.
