Draft caste census list out

The draft list of Socio Economic Caste Census for Tirupur district published here on Monday has details of socio-economic status of 22,29,396 people residing in 6,35,205 households.

Official sources told The Hindu that the census was conducted with the objectives of ranking the households based on the economic status, and to make available information on socio-economic condition as well as education levels of various castes/sections of the population.

The entire collection of data carried out on hand held electronic devices, the sources said.

Of the 6,35,205 households enumerated during the census, 1,99,745 households were in Tirupur Corporation limits, 68,990 spread over 16 town panchayats, 51,982 falling under five municipalities of Udumalpet, Palladam, Vellakoil, Dharapuram and Kangayam, and the remaining 3,14,488 in village panchayats.

Officials here said that the copy of the census would be made available at ward levels in corporation, municipalities and town panchayats and at panchayat offices in rural areas, for people to go through the details published in the document.

Coimbatore

District Collector Archana Patnaik on Monday released the draft caste census rolls at the Collectorate.

Members of the public having claims and objections may submit the same in the appropriate application forms to the officers there.

The officials will receive the applications till June 8 in rural areas and June 15 in urban areas.

After verifying the applications, the district administration will release the final rolls for rural on June 10, and urban on June 17.
