‘Don’t drive tribals out of their traditional land’

TamilNadu Malai Vaazh Makkal Sangam (TMVMS) urged the forest department to not to drive the tribal people out of their traditional lands in Jawadu hills.

The TMVMS passed a resolution to this effect at its district conference held here on Wednesday.

R.Annamalai presided over the conference. C.Kumar delivered welcome address. State general secretary S.Palanisamy delivered inaugural address.

District Secretary R.Saravanan has read out report. State secretary P.Shanmugam and CPI(M) state committee member M.Veerabadran were among those participated.

Other resolutions passed at the meet urged the government to implement Forest Rights Act 2006 in Tamil Nadu and to increase the reservation of Scheduled Tribes in the state according to their population.

It also wanted to give ST certificate within 15 days of application and free the tribal people working as bonded labours in stone quarries.
