The Centre has appointed Dr Nagaswami, former director of archaeology (Tamil Nadu), as Domain Expert for the National Screening and Evaluation Committee.

The committee is responsible for sending art objects to other countries and museums and institutions for exhibition purposes and examining them when they are brought back to check for damage.

Dr. Nagaswami said there is a constant interaction between government and non-government agencies here and abroad, involving exchange of precious artefacts and exhibitions.

“The objects must be selected with great care and also care must be taken to see that their true value and insurance value are expertly assessed. The committee is also responsible for certifying the safe return of the objects,” he told PTI.

Dr. Nagaswami said he had received a letter from the Centre, informing him of his appointment.
