A documentary on veteran Carnatic musician Manakkal S. Rangarajan will be released at a function in Chennai on July 21.
Born in 1922, in a family of musicians, Rangarajan rose to early fame as a Carnatic vocalist.
His fast-paced renditions and enviable control over delineation of both rare and familiar ragas made him a legendary singer, a position he holds to this day, according to a press release issued here.
The 75-minute-long documentary, while chronicling his life and times, has also recorded the rich tributes offered by stalwart musicians and lovers of Carnatic music, with several excerpts from his concerts.
Produced by R. Pathmanaba Iyer and directed by Amshan Kumar, the documentary will be released by N. Murali, president of Music Academy, in the presence of other musicians .
